The Retirement Resource Organization accepts gifts of tangible property. Tangible property includes items such as jewelry, artwork or vehicles. Donating personal property is a way to receive an immediate tax deduction, reduce your taxable estate and help our retirees and caregivers for future generations.

Benefits / Gift Requirements

  • Income Tax Savings - For property held long-term and related to our mission, you can take an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value on the date given. For property held short-term or unrelated to our mission, you can take a deduction for the property's cost basis or fair market value, whichever is less.
  • Capital Gain Tax Savings - For property held long-term and related to our mission, you avoid the capital gain taxes you would have paid had you sold the property.
  • Future Tax Savings - Your gift is removed from your estate.
  • Leave a Legacy - Your gift will ensure retirees and caregivers will be provided for in future generations.
  • Minimum Dollar Amount: $25,000

If you are interested in donating a vehicle, please contact your local Retirement Resource Organization office for more information.

How It Works

  • Mission Related Tangible Personal Property - John donated a van he had owned for 5 years to the Organization. The Organization staff will use the van to assist with retiree travel assistance activities. Therefore, the property is considered to be mission related and John receives an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value.
  • Non-Mission Related Tangible Personal Property - Kelly gave the Organization a pair of diamond earrings. Since we cannot use them to further our mission we will sell them and use the proceeds to further our Organization efforts. Kelly receives an income tax charitable deduction for the lesser of the cost basis or market value of the earrings.
